Should Women Wear White Wedding Dresses?

By Monica Zimmerman, syn4good

Celebrities On Your Wedding Day

OK, you’ve spent a few joyous years with the love of your life. Now the two of you have decided that the time has come to make it an official union. The groom to be gives the green light to make it the day of your dreams. At least that’s how my wedding plans began. With everything going on, now you’re thinking what am I going to wear? Should I wear white because I never married and I have no children or another color because I have been married with children, etc?

Therefore, with all the hoopla surrounding Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s wedding, brides-to-be want to wear the latest trend on their special day. According to Leah Bourne of Forbes,

“Speculation is in full force as to what Angelina Jolie will wear to her upcoming wedding to longtime partner Brad Pitt. The biggest question—will the bride wear white for her third trip down the aisle?”

“And for those scratching their heads as to why there is so much fuss over Jolie’s upcoming wedding and dress choice, consider this—the US wedding industry generates about  $40 billion a year, with a huge amount being spent on wedding dresses and accessories. What Jolie wears will be copied for years to come, and means big business for the wedding industry.”

Women Of Colour

In addition Deborah Lindquist, Huffington Post shares,

“It's not just a white dress anymore. Wedding dresses are inspired by the uniquely beautiful women who wear them.”

“Today, women are making new and different choices in what they choose to wear for the most romantic day of their life, their wedding ceremony. While the traditional white dress will always be considered a first choice for many, others are creatively, and sometimes boldly, circumventing tradition.”

Wedding Dresses In Color

In December 2011 a survey conducted by bride and groom, focused on everything from price to color. Here are the wedding dresses in color results.

Mind, Body and Pole

By Monica Zimmerman, syn4good.com

Bucket List

“I started pole dancing as part of my bucket list,” shouted Olivia Reynolds, 50, married, mother of two but raised seven children, active church member, graduate of Delsea Regional H.S., and a Criminal Justice graduate of Cumberland County College.

In addition to her education, she worked as a Behaviors Life Guardian for Ancora Psychiatric Hospital and a Life and Recreational Therapist for fourteen years at PAFACOM (formerly known as the Vineland Developmental Center). Additionally, her experience, hard work and dedication to the Mental Health community, earned her an honorary Bachelor of Science degree in Mental Science from PAFACOM.

Reynolds’ active participation as a community meeting attendee combined with her driven attitude to assist humanity has helped her to become an influential voice in her Bridgeton, NJ neighborhood. In addition to these experiences and as the founder of T.O.P. Studio and Fitness, as featured on blogspot, she attributes pole dancing for changing her life spiritually, mentally and physically.

There were things she wanted to do before turning 40. So when she turned 36 she said, “Well I better finish this list, I only have four more years. Half of them were done, riding a motorcycle, driving a mac truck, jumping a train, everything. Pole dancing, I was a little scared because of the negative stigma that’s given to us [it].” Her activities doesn’t come as a surprise to her family according to her cousin Jonathan Zimmerman, “She was always fun and adventurous when we were growing up.”

Inner and Outer Beauty

Reynolds founded T.O.P. Studio and Fitness for women to exercise and discover their inner and outer beauty in a profound new way. Since she believes that women should be proud of their curves, her first session with clients consists of them looking in the mirror and pointing out their dislikes about their bodies. She encourages them to get it all out of the way to make room for all the things her clients are going to like about their bodies. She also adds, “Remember we’re sexy and we can’t help it, it’s the way God make us. Now how you [we] introduce yourself [ourselves] is up to you [us].”

She combines sensual movement with solid fitness principles that every woman can learn and do in order to build the strength that’s needed to participate in more advance pole work. For example, Tanisha shared that these classes helped her to get back in shape after having her baby, two months ago. She enjoys it so much that she’s thinking about training to be an instructor, herself. Since students can become instructors and compete in pole competitions, Reynolds looks forward to seeing a category in the Olympics, someday.

Pole Benefits

“I’m not afraid to show you that I wear a six pack. I wear it proudly because of pole dancing,” yelled Reynolds while tugging at her workout gear. As a sufferer of two torn rotating cups and arthritis she credits her solid fitness principles for the flexibility she now enjoys. She tells everyone, “Now you can’t even tell that I have these ailments. I say this to say, you can do anything you want. And don’t let people’s negative stigmas dictate where you go or what you do!”

T.O.P. Studio and Fitness, additionally shared on betterfly, is home to hundreds of women of every age, shape and size who have experienced these self-confidence, liberation and fitness benefits for themselves.

Rapper Turned Invincible Author

Styles P the Rapper and Author is a known member of the LOX Hip Hop Group and Co-CEO of D-Block Records. He grew up in Yonkers, N.Y. rapping alongside Jadakiss (Jayson Phillips) and Sheek Louch. Later the trio met and impressed Mary J. Blige with their lyrics that she gave their demo to Sean “Diddy” Combs. They were hired to write for Bad Boy Records and collaborated on hits with Mary J Blige, the Notorious BIG, Diddy, and Mariah Carey. These opportunities gave them instant success within the mainstream and Hip Hop community. According to therealStylesP, these are just a few of his accomplishments.

He was in Philadelphia promoting his first fiction novel “Invincible.” As an professional lyricist, P shared, “I think when you in the game and you’re a rap artist that kind a makes you a author, and a producer and a director at the same time because your creativity. You think creative, you think stories, you think with words, you know words are my weapon. Books and films always been part of something I wanted to do.”

P had so much success promoting his albums in Philly in the past that making Black and Nobel a stop on his book-signing itinerary was a must. Black and Nobel’s erieave, ZIMTV and the twitter community showed their anticipation
by inviting everyone to the event.

In an effort to get their books autographed, patrons filled the store. While the music glared, the line grew around the corner, networking among the people took place, smells of vegan dishes and drinks filled the air and store personnel relayed encouragements and thank you messages to fans through the bullhorn as they waited their turn.

Attendees offered comments on their experience. For example, Alturice Frazier, said, “We came all the way here from North Jersey to support Style P’s book and get him into our movie for New York since we already got Beanie Segal representing Philadelphia, promote J. M. Benjamin books and connect with Philadelphia talent.”

J.M. Benjamin added, “We basically came down here today because Styles P was a potential prospect to a character, a movie of mine, of one of my books that was converted. In addition to that, we’re showing that you can turn a negative situation into a positive opportunity. We all come from something negative but it didn’t dictate our present or our intended future. We’re here today, one to unify as a people and two to represent positivity that comes out of the hood.”

As the event came to an end and P granted media interviews, first he said, “If you a MC and in Hip Hop you need to read, you really need to read. If rap words are your weapons, the best thing for you is to read, write, stay fluctuated with different words, pick up magazines and books. Stay on point with your words and learn as much as you can, absorb as much as you can, say the illest expletive that you can.”

Secondly he added, “I am a official published author as well as I’m a official MC. I’m a official published author. Watch out for my next book, it’s gonna be a continuation of Invincible. I’m working on it ASAP, right now as we speak. I’m also working with Black and Nobel right now, we gonna do what we can do to bring more Hip Hop authors to the forefront, so people can know that they are just as important as MCs and DJs. People need to read. Look forward to me being here a lot and doing a lot of work and pushing a lot of books and pushing
a lot of authors.”

Lastly, he expressed, “Big salute to the 215, I appreciate the love yawl always show me every trip from back then until now. It means a lot to me. Salute, I love yawl. Black and Nobel.”
